Are you a high school student in grades 10–12 who loves musical theatre and enjoys working with kids?

We’re looking for responsible, enthusiastic, and supportive teaching assistants to join our musical theatre programs, namely The CBY Showstoppers, The CBY Rising Stars and The CBY Musical Theatre Minis.  This is a great opportunity for teens who are eager to gain experience in a fun, fast-paced performing arts environment while making a real impact behind the scenes.

  • Schedule: The CBY Showstoppers: Mondays and Thursdays, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM*
  • Schedule: The CBY Rising Stars: Sundays 1:30pm-2:30pm
  • Schedule: The CBY Musical Theatre Minis: Saturdays 2pm-3pm
  • Term: September ’25 to June ’26 (full academic year)

  • Hiring for: Junior and Intermediate Showstoppers
  • Pay: $20 per hour

 

* Please note: We may split the Showstoppers position into two roles, one for the Monday class and one for the Thursday class, with flexibility to support each other. 

As Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in the successful delivery of our popular youth musical theatre programs, The CBY ShowstoppersThe CBY Rising Stars and The CBY Musical Theatre Minis (for children aged 6–12). You are welcome to apply for one program or all three!

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the lead instructor(s) wherever necessary, including:
    • Classroom management
    • Leading breakout groups
    • Printing and other simple admin tasks
    • Welcoming parents and students to the building
    • Supporting individual students during rehearsals wherever needed in singing, acting and dancing disciplines
  • Assisting backstage during our two show seasons (December and June each year).

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Is reliable, responsible, and shows up ready to help

  • Enjoys working with kids and knows how to be friendly, patient, and encouraging

  • Can follow directions from the lead teachers and offer support during rehearsals

  • Has a positive attitude and helps create a fun, welcoming environment

  • Feels confident helping younger students stay focused and engaged

  • Has a passion for musical theatre, performing arts, or being part of a creative team

  • Experience in musical theatre, drama, dance, or choir (school or community-based)

  • Leadership experience (like camp counselor, babysitting, peer mentoring, or student council)

  • Comfort speaking or performing in front of a group

  • Ability to help with props, costumes, or set design

  • Experience working with kids (through volunteering, tutoring, or coaching)

  • A creative streak, whether it’s singing, acting, dancing, or helping with behind-the-scenes tasks

Now going into its 5th year, The CBY Showstoppers has become the largest youth musical theatre program in Waterdown and Flamborough. The program is responsible for training over 70 students aged 6-18, all of whom come to the CBY Academy to develop their skills and love of musical theatre. There are three age divisions: The CBY Junior Showstoppers (grades 1-4), The CBY Intermediate Showstoppers (grades 5-8) and The CBY Senior Showstoppers (grades 8-12). Previous shows include Annie Jr, Shrek Jr, Finding Nemo Jr and Matilda Jr.

Since 2017, The CBY Academy has been providing high-quality performing arts education to young people from Waterdown, Hamilton, Burlington, and beyond. The academy features a busy and vibrant private lessons department, with over 120 students attending weekly one-on-one music lessons across multiple disciplines, including voice, piano, guitar, drums, and flute. In addition, the academy offers a thriving group programs department, welcoming 140 students each week for training in musical theatre, stage and film acting, and dance. The academy won “Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2021 and “Small Business of the Year” in 2024 at the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards. The academy also runs Camp CBY, the largest performing arts summer camp in the area.
